A produ&ccedil;&atilde;o anual de pistache no pa&iacute;s atingiu aproximadamente 524 mil toneladas, resultado de investimentos em irriga&ccedil;&atilde;o, mecaniza&ccedil;&atilde;o e pesquisa varietal desde a d&eacute;cada de 1970, concentrados principalmente nas regi&otilde;es da Calif&oacute;rnia e do Vale Central.<\/p>\n<p>As primeiras sementes de pistache chegaram aos EUA no final do s&eacute;culo XIX, trazidas por imigrantes e por cole&ccedil;&otilde;es bot&acirc;nicas. Os experimentos iniciais foram limitados, pois a esp&eacute;cie requer clima quente, ver&otilde;es longos e invernos frios, condi&ccedil;&otilde;es encontradas em &aacute;reas espec&iacute;ficas do oeste americano. Pesquisadores e viveiristas, em parceria com universidades estaduais e ag&ecirc;ncias federais,<a rel=\"follow\" href=\"https:\/\/om.ciheam.org\/om\/pdf\/a119\/00007415.pdf\"> testaram variedades origin&aacute;rias do Ir&atilde; e da Turquia<\/a> e selecionaram as que melhor se adaptaram ao solo e ao clima locais.<\/p>\n<p>Entre as d&eacute;cadas de 1970 e 1990, a disponibilidade crescente de &aacute;gua para irriga&ccedil;&atilde;o, a mecaniza&ccedil;&atilde;o da colheita e o investimento em infraestrutura de processamento e secagem permitiram a consolida&ccedil;&atilde;o do pistache como produto de exporta&ccedil;&atilde;o. A Calif&oacute;rnia e o Vale Central ofereceram as condi&ccedil;&otilde;es agron&ocirc;micas e log&iacute;sticas necess&aacute;rias para o cultivo em larga escala, atraindo agricultores e investidores.<\/p>\n<p>Atualmente, os EUA mant&ecirc;m posi&ccedil;&atilde;o de destaque entre os<a rel=\"follow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fas.usda.gov\/data\/production\/0577907\"> maiores produtores mundiais de pistache<\/a>, com cadeia produtiva que inclui cultivo, processamento e comercializa&ccedil;&atilde;o. As perspectivas de futuro apontam para a inova&ccedil;&atilde;o varietal, a ado&ccedil;&atilde;o de pr&aacute;ticas agr&iacute;colas com menor pegada h&iacute;drica, a adapta&ccedil;&atilde;o &agrave;s mudan&ccedil;as clim&aacute;ticas e a diversifica&ccedil;&atilde;o de mercados internacionais.<\/p>\n<p>A APG, criada em 2008, tem como objetivo garantir a ado&ccedil;&atilde;o de pr&aacute;ticas agr&iacute;colas sustent&aacute;veis, reduzir o consumo de &aacute;gua e promover a efici&ecirc;ncia energ&eacute;tica nas fazendas associadas.
